One of my satisfactions as a blogger is watching the growth of the builders who started their business together with Inazuma Cafe and enjoy their bikes, each time more beautiful and personal... Federico Baldacchino, founder of Aniba Motorcycles, is one of these, and the bike I introduce you today is his 1981 CX500.

Una delle mie soddisfazioni di blogger è vedere crescere i costruttori che hanno cominciato la loro attività insieme all’Inazuma Cafe ed ammirare le loro moto, ogni volta più belle e personali… Federico Baldacchino, fondatore di Aniba Motorcycles, è uno di questi, e la moto di oggi è la sua CX500 del 1981.

The livery of this bike evokes war ships and fighter planes, a real inspiration for many of the Federico’s works, and that’s why I wanted to call "Bomber" this fascinating fat girl.




La livrea di questa evoca navi e aerei da guerra, una vera ispirazione per molti dei lavori di Federico, e per questo motivo ho voluto chiamare “Bombardiere” (Bomber) questa affascinante cicciona.

The engine was overhauled and painted matt black as well as the frame and many other details of this bike. The rims, however, were painted gloss black. They wear Metzeler tires, vintage designed but performing, because at Aniba they cut to the chase and they pay attention to the practical usability of the machine.



Il motore è stato revisionato e verniciato nero opaco come il telaio e molti particolari. I cerchi ruota, invece, sono stati verniciati nero lucido. Montano gomme Metzeler dal disegno vintage ma comunque performanti, perché alla Aniba si bada al sodo e alla fruibilità del mezzo.

The subframe was modified and closed it with a handle for the passenger. Given that the CX has a flat and boxed structure subframe, the build wasn’t easy. But Federico is a professional coachbuilder and succeeded. The seat comes from an early Honda Dominator, it was entirely handmade and required 24 working hours.

Il telaio sottosella è stato modificato chiudendolo con un maniglione per il passeggero. Tenuto conto che la CX ha un telaio scatolato piatto, l’impresa non è stata semplice. Ma Federico è un carrozziere è c’è riuscito. La sella arriva da una Honda Dominator prima serie: è interamente fatta a mano e ha richiesto 24 ore di lavoro.

The tank cap comes from an old metal gas can. That stock one, in fact, it's really ugly. The solution is not the best in terms of safety, but it really is a gem.



Il tappo del serbatoio arriva da una vecchia tanica di benzina in metallo. Quello di serie, in effetti, è davvero brutto. La soluzione non è il massimo in tema di sicurezza passiva, ma è davvero una chicca.

This 1982 GS450, called "The Cotrione" (in slang: "The back" from the shape of the body work) is the result of the encounter of four young motoring enthusiasts, happened a year ago: Danilo, Simone, Tullio and Michael. Danilo and Simone are the founders of Officine 08, an online store specialized in spare parts for vintage and special motorcycles. Tullio, passionate of 50 cc vintage bikes and mopeds, is a talented mechanic. Michael has got a fixation for metalworking and aluminium bodyworks. 

Questa GS450 del 1982, denominata “il Cotrione” (la schiena) è il frutto dell’incontro di quattro ragazzi appassionati di motori, avvenuto circa un anno fa: Danilo, Simone, Tullio e Michael. Danilo e Simone sono i fondatori delle Officine 08, negozio online specializzato in ricambi per moto d’epoca e speciali. Tullio è appassionatissimo di moto (soprattutto dei vecchi cinquantini), talentuoso meccanico. Michael ha la fissazione per lavorazione dei metalli e la costruzione di carrozzerie in alluminio. 

The four guys complement each other and soon they are given the chance to prove it. One of the Officine 08 suppliers asks them for a special to exhibit at the Motor Bike Expo in Verona. The time is short, a month or so, but they cannot miss this opportunity. The bike is stolen to Francesca, Simone's girlfriend. She decides the way the motorcycle will be. They all like the project and the work begins.

I quattro si completano a vicenda e ben presto gli viene data l’occasione di dimostrarlo. Uno dei fornitori delle Officine 08 gli chiede una special da esporre al Motor Bike Expo di Verona. I tempi sono stretti, poco più di un mese, ma un’occasione non si può far scappare. Si decide la cavia: la Suzuki GS450 di Francesca, compagna di Simone. Lei decide la linea della moto che piace a tutti e i lavori hanno inizio.

37 days later only, on January 23rd at 1:30 AM, the bike is over! Just a few hours before bringing it to Verona, as in the best TV shows. The build required about 600 working hours, including Christmas and St. Stephen day, but it was the test field for the team who is currently working on three new projects. If this is the debut, great things are going to happen.

Solo 37 giorni dopo, all’ 1.30 di notte del 23 gennaio, la moto è finita! Giusto qualche ora prima di doverla caricare sul furgone per Verona, come nei migliori show televisivi..Le modifiche hanno richiesto 600 ore circa di lavoro, Natale e S. Stefano compresi, ma è stato il banco di prova per il team che, in questo momento, sta già lavorando ad altri tre progetti. Se questo è l’esordio, c’è da aspettarsi grandi cose.

Main specs. Custom subframe. Shock absorbers removed and replaced by a mono shock. Reinforced stock swingarm. Aprilia RS125 inverted forks, completely overhauled. New 17” wheels. Rear disc brake. Custom aluminium footpegs. Custom aluminium gauges’ plate. Simplified electrical system. Custom exhausts and new muffler. Handmade single piece 2mm aluminium body work (tank and tail consisting of 17 pieces, tig welded and polished). 

Principali modifiche. Sezione posteriore del telaio ricostruita. Eliminazione dei doppi ammortizzatori posteriori, sostituiti da un monoammortizzatore. Forcellone posteriore rinforzato da una capriata. Forcella anteriore a steli rovesciati proveniente Aprilia RS125, completamente revisionata. Cerchi originali sostituiti da una coppia da 17 pollici. Freno posteriore a disco. Piastre pedane artigianali in alluminio. Scatola porta strumentazione artigianale in alluminio. Impianto elettrico rivisto e semplificato. Impianto di scarico artigianale (ad eccezione del terminale). Coda e e serbatoio monoscocca artigianale in alluminio spessore 2mm (costituita da 17 pezzi, battuti a mano, spianati e saldati a tig).
